Skald Bjornolf, "Stormrager"

This towering warrior is draped in the pelt of a dire ox, its horns acting as shoulder-guards. He wields a hammer that looks like a slab of mountain rock. When he chants, the air vibrates with the smell of ozone and blood.

  4. Rage Powers: Superstition (+5 saves vs magic), Witch Hunter (+3 damage vs casters), Ghost Rager (Damage to Incorporeal), Lesser Spirit Totem (Spirits attack adjacent foes for 1d4+Cha Negative energy).
  5. Penalty: -1 to AC.

----- Tactics ----- The War-Engine: Torvald is a force multiplier.

  1. Round 1: Move Action to start Raging Song. Standard Action to cast Haste.
    • Party Effect: Everyone gains +6 Str, Fast Healing 6, +1 attack/AC/Reflex (Haste), and extra attacks.
  2. Round 2: Torvald charges into melee with his Earth Breaker.
    • Melee: With his song active, he hits at +27 for 2d6+19 + 1d6 Sonic.
  3. Spell Kenning: If the party is in trouble, he uses Spell Kenning to cast Heal (from Cleric list) or Emergency Force Sphere (from Wizard list) instantly.
  4. Wild Shape: As a Totemic Skald, he can Wild Shape into a Bull (Medium/Large/Tiny animal) for utility or disguise, though he usually fights in humanoid form to use his hammer.

----- Statistics ----- Str 22, Dex 14, Con 18, Int 10, Wis 10, Cha 24 (Stats include +4 Belt, +6 Headband) Base Atk +10; CMB +16; CMD 30 Feats Skald's Vigor, Greater Skald's Vigor, Power Attack, Discordant Voice (All allies deal +1d6 sonic), Lingering Performance, Toughness, Extra Performance. Skills Perform (Oratory/Sing) +24, Perception +17, Knowledge (Local/Nature/History) +17, Spellcraft +17, Use Magic Device +24. SQ Bardic Knowledge, Versatile Performance, Well-Versed, Totem (Bull).

----- Gear ----- Combat: Rod of Extend Spell (Lesser), Scroll of Heal, Potion of Fly. Equipment: +4 Breastplate, +2 Furious Earth Breaker (Furious property increases enhancement by +2 while raging), Belt of Physical Might +4 (Str/Con), Headband of Alluring Charisma +6, Ring of Protection +2, Amulet of Natural Armor +3, Cloak of Resistance +4, Boots of the Cat (Min fall damage), Masterwork Drums.

Build Notes

Totemic Skald (Bull): Unlike a normal Skald who gives +4 Str / +4 Con (Morale), Torvald gives +6 Str (Enhancement). This is huge because it stacks with size bonuses but not with Belts of Strength (which are also Enhancement). However, since his bonus (+6) is higher than most belts (+4) at this level, it's still a net gain of +2 for most PCs, and a massive +6 for summoned monsters, animal companions, or cohorts who don't have belts.

  • Skald's Vigor: The feat reads: "You gain fast healing equal to the Strength bonus your raging song grants." Because Totemic Skald grants a +6 bonus, the Fast Healing is 6. With Greater Skald's Vigor, the whole party gets this.
  • Spell Kenning: This is his "Get out of Jail Free" card. He can cast Resurrection, Teleport, or Wall of Force once per day by spending a full round action. Don't forget he has it!
